EASTGATEH2V: Key Milestones and Project Phases
EASTGATEH2V is a 6-year project (72 months), running from 2025 to 2031. The project follows a structured, phased approach to deliver Slovakia’s first Hydrogen Valley, ensuring practical results from planning to full-scale operation.
The project begins with technical planning, permitting processes and detailed design for hydrogen production, distribution and deployment sites.
Construction starts on the renewable hydrogen production facility near Košice, including installation of 4 MW electrolyser capacity (2 MW Alkaline and 2 MW PEM). Distribution logistics with hydrogen trailers are established.
Deployment of hydrogen-powered buses, municipal vehicles, and the touristic boat begins. Demonstrations of hydrogen-fuelled VTOL aircraft take place at Košice Airport.
Green hydrogen is introduced into industrial processes, particularly for high-purity applications. The project enhances Slovakia’s links to Ukraine and integrates into the Central European Hydrogen Corridor.
All hydrogen infrastructure becomes operational. Transport, industrial and mobility applications run at full capacity across the Košice region.
The final project year focuses on sharing results, technical insights and socio-economic assessments to support replication of Hydrogen Valleys in other European regions.
