The year 2025 marked the official start of EASTGATEH2V and the first concrete steps toward building Slovakia’s Hydrogen Valley in the Košice region. This initial phase focused on setting up communication, governance and planning structures that will support the project’s long-term implementation and impact.

Establishing Communication and Project Visibility
The year 2025 marked the launch of the EASTGATEH2V project and focused on building solid foundations for Slovakia’s first Hydrogen Valley in the Košice region. One of the first priorities was setting up clear and transparent communication for the public, stakeholders and policymakers.
The official EASTGATEH2V website was launched as the main information platform presenting the project’s goals, activities and expected impacts. At the same time, project social media channels were established under the unified handle eastgateh2v (LinkedIn, Facebook, X, Instagram), enabling regular updates, partner visibility and accessible explanations of hydrogen technologies and their role in regional development. During 2025, the consortium also prepared the first promotional and visual materials to support outreach activities, events and stakeholder engagement.
Deployment Advisory Group Begins Regular Work
A key milestone in 2025 was the establishment of the Deployment Advisory Group (DAG). The group started meeting on a monthly basis and provides expert guidance on the safe, realistic and scalable deployment of the Hydrogen Valley.
The DAG brings together organisations with strong experience in hydrogen deployment, infrastructure and cross-border cooperation, including ECUBES Hydrogen & Flexibility, Hydrogen Architects, HyEnergy Consultancy, Fraunhofer and the Ukrainian Hydrogen Council. Through regular exchanges, the group supports early strategic discussions on deployment planning, risk management, regulatory aspects and alignment with European hydrogen initiatives.
Technical Preparation and Early Planning
Alongside communication and governance activities, 2025 focused on preparation and planning. Work began on defining technical concepts, potential deployment pathways and permitting requirements for hydrogen production, distribution and end-use sites across the Košice region. These preparatory steps are essential to ensure that future infrastructure development is efficient, safe and aligned with regional needs and European energy objectives.
Building a Strong Foundation for the Next Phases
Overall, 2025 was a foundational year for EASTGATEH2V. By establishing communication channels, activating expert advisory structures and initiating technical preparation, the project created a solid basis for moving toward real-world hydrogen deployment in the Košice region.
