Another important role of hydrogen is in large-scale energy storage. Renewable energy sources such as wind and solar produce electricity intermittently. Hydrogen can store surplus renewable energy and release it when demand is higher, helping stabilise energy systems.

The Role of Hydrogen Valleys
Projects like EASTGATEH2V demonstrate how hydrogen can work alongside electrification in real-world conditions. The project is developing a Hydrogen Valley in the Košice region, connecting hydrogen production, distribution infrastructure and practical applications in transport and industry.
This integrated approach helps show how hydrogen can complement existing energy solutions and contribute to a clean and diversified energy future.
