On 6 October 2026, representatives of the hydrogen sector from Slovakia and Czechia will meet in Vyhne, Slovakia, for the 3rd Czech-Slovak Hydrogen Workshop, organised by the Slovak National Hydrogen Association (NVAS) and the Czech Hydrogen Technology Platform (HYTEP).
The event will provide a platform to discuss the current state of the hydrogen ecosystem in both countries, compare development plans and examine progress towards the hydrogen-related objectives for 2030. Particular attention will be given to the barriers currently affecting hydrogen deployment and possible approaches to overcoming them through closer cooperation.
Hydrogen policy, regulation and projects
The morning programme will focus on developments in the Slovak and Czech hydrogen sectors and the evolving European regulatory framework. Discussions will cover topics including RED III and related delegated acts, low-carbon hydrogen, the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS) and other regulatory developments directly affecting hydrogen projects.
A dedicated panel will also explore opportunities for Slovak-Czech cooperation in the hydrogen sector, including areas where the two countries share common interests at the European level.
The afternoon will shift from policy to implementation, with presentations of six hydrogen projects from Slovakia and Czechia, showcasing practical experience and different approaches to hydrogen technologies and deployment.
From discussion to real-world deployment
The workshop will conclude with a presentation of practical experience from the planning, construction and commissioning of a 1 MW PEM electrolyser, followed by a site visit to the new installation operated by Veolia Energia Slovensko in Žiar nad Hronom.
For the EASTGATEH2V community, the workshop represents a relevant opportunity to follow developments in the Slovak and Czech hydrogen ecosystems, exchange knowledge and strengthen connections among stakeholders involved in the development of hydrogen technologies and infrastructure in Central Europe.
