Hydrogen Valleys are integrated regional ecosystems that link hydrogen production, transport, storage and multiple end uses within one coordinated system. Rather than focusing on a single technology or application, they bring together the entire hydrogen value chain in a defined geographical area.
Connecting the Hydrogen Value Chain
A key feature of Hydrogen Valleys is their ability to connect all parts of the hydrogen system. This includes hydrogen production, typically from renewable energy sources, as well as infrastructure for storage and transport, and finally real-world applications where hydrogen is used.

EASTGATEH2V: A Hydrogen Valley in the Košice Region
The EASTGATEH2V project is developing a Hydrogen Valley in the Košice region of Slovakia. The project brings together partners from across Europe to build an integrated system connecting hydrogen production, infrastructure and end uses.
Within this regional ecosystem, hydrogen will be applied in areas such as public transport, industry and innovative mobility solutions, while also supporting the development of infrastructure and digital tools.
By demonstrating how hydrogen can function within a coordinated regional system, EASTGATEH2V contributes to the broader goal of creating sustainable, low-carbon energy systems in Europe.
Hydrogen Valleys therefore represent an important step from individual projects toward fully integrated, real-world hydrogen ecosystems.
